Sewage Spill in Four Mile Run

Arlington County has reported a sewage spill in the area of Columbia Pike and S. Dinwiddie Street, spilling into Four Mile Run Stream.

The spill has been contained by crews working the scene, but City of Alexandria residents are advised to avoid direct contact with water in Four Mile Run to eliminate the risk of exposure to untreated sewage. This includes keeping all pets and children away from adjacent areas until further notice.

Residents should not fish in Four Mile Run or have any contact with the waters – including wading or swimming – until further notice from the City. The advisory to avoid all contact is considered an extra precaution until the discharge is stopped and to allow the effect of the discharge to be diminished by natural flushing of the streams.
