Operation Cinco De Mayo In Effect This Weekend

Via NBC Washington:
The Alexandria Police Department plans to keep you safe on the roads this weekend with Operation Cinco De Mayo in full effect.

In an effort to deter and apprehend intoxicated drivers in Alexandria, police will begin cracking down on drunken drivers at 8 p.m. Saturday and continue through 6 a.m. Sunday.

As part of Operation Cinco De Mayo, the department’s mobile sobriety enforcement campaign, police will stop motorists to ensure alcohol or drugs haven’t impaired their abilities.

Chief of Police Earl L. Cook reminds drivers that the maximum penalty in Virginia for the first conviction for driving under the influence is 12 months in jail, a $2,500 fine and a 12-month suspension of driving privileges.
